Last minute cheap holidays booking may have more advantages than many would know. Most of the cheap flights and hotels will give very large discounts as booking spaces remain days or hours before travel. This means that if you time the periods well, you can actually save much more in booking last minute as opposed to early booking. Therefore, if you do not have much time to plan your vacation and want a holiday trip in short notice, the the tips below will ensure that you get the best cheap holidays.

    Make a Quick To-Do List

The first thing to do if you are late for your holiday booking is to make a quick to do list to guide you through the preparations and to ensure that you do not forget any important item for your cheap holidays. Last minute traveling is usually done in a hurry and it is very to forget an important item in your itinerary. The list will therefore guide you in this. Some of the things you want to remember is foreign currency exchange, travel documentation, medication and airport transfer booking among other travel details.

Internet Search for Last Minute Deals

The internet is the best tool to fish out the best cheap holidays for last minute travel. There are even websites and agents that specialize on providing last minute booking and seeking for the last minute deals. Therefore, you can search through these sites and seek for these deals. You can also search through hotel websites to seek for the offers. There are also last minute packages that are designed to give further discounts for the travelers. The deals will include airfare and accommodation and provide significant discounts.

    Travel With No Frill Airlines

To ensure that you get good rates for your cheap holidays, ensure that you travel via cheap airlines. Cheap airlines give a huge travel discount especially for last minute travelers. Therefore, seek for these last minute deals from the websites of the cheap flights airlines and from cheap flights online travel agents.

Read Travel Section on Local News Channels and Newspapers

Most hotels and airlines will normally post their last minute deals on the local newspaper on regular websites and even on TV. This is a bid to woo any last minute travelers and avoid revenue loss in unreserved spaces. Therefore, look out for such offers in the local media advertisements.

    Call Airlines and Hotels Directly

Most last minute cheap flights and cheap holidays offers are given directly by the airlines and hotels and will not be available through travel agents. Therefore, one of the best tips of getting the cheapest rates is to call the hotels and airlines directly. Call and find out if there are any last minute offers available and negotiate on the price to bring it lower. Because the hotels and airlines will have spaces and will lose on revenues either way, they are willing to get really low to have you use their services. Therefore, call a couple of hotels in your preferred destinations and if you are lucky, you will get hotels with many unreserved spaces and therefore willing to give big discounts.

Easy Voyage is a leading cheap flights and cheap holidays agent providing you with very competitive travel deals including last minute travel deals. You can find out more by following the links to our website.

Fifty Places to Sail Before You Die: Sailing Experts Share the World's Greatest Destinations

Fifty Places to Sail Before You Die: Sailing Experts Share the World's Greatest DestinationsLandlubbers joke that sailors are always wanting to head off to the ends of the earth, but Chris Santella takes that life-changing desire very seriously. In this, the third installment in his immensely successful ?Fifty Places? series, Santella assembles a crew of the world?s greatest championship racers and professional adventurers and persuades them to disclose their favorite destinations around the globe.

Interviewees include some of the best-known men and women in the sport: Tom Whidden and Gary Jobson (members of the winning 1987 America?s Cup crew), Jeff Johnstone (of J-Boats), award-winning sailing writer Lin Pardy, and many others. The amazingly diverse places they?ve selected range from clubby East Coast ports (Marblehead, Annapolis), to idyllic tropical refuges (Ilha Grande, Brazil; the Polynesian atoll of Mopelia), to some of the most hair-raisingly treacherous waters on earth (Cape Horn).

Coastlines around the world?even Antarctica and the Arctic?are represented, and the chosen spots include some spectacular inland waters, such as the Bras d?Or Lakes and the North Channel of Lake Huron. For each of the 50 places, the sailor recommending the venue spins an entertaining yarn about his or her experience there, and each description is accompanied by a "make you want to go there now" photograph.

Pokhara, Nepal - cheap place to kick back for a while

Every year I do one of these cheapest places to live posts. Some of the info is evergreen, some is timely, but if you want you can check out the posts from 2010 and 2009 in the archives. Many destinations stay predictably cheap, some go up or down a lot depending on exchange rates (see News Flash: Travel Prices Fluctuate).

I’ve gotten a few insights from the comments over the years. One is that some people watch way too much TV and don’t seem to realize that 24-hour cable news thrives on scaring them. The other is that people have very different reasons for asking this question: “Where can I live for cheap?” So this time I’m breaking it up a bit by life situation. That has a huge impact on the answer.

For the past 12 months I’ve lived in Guanajuato, Mexico, living on roughly 60 percent of what I spent living in a mid-sized city in the U.S. (Nashville, TN–where I had a 9-year-old mortgage). On that 60 percent we have not had/needed a car, but have lived a much richer life: eating out more, not worrying about the bar tab, having a weekly maid, taking a taxi whenever we felt like it, etc. Our living expenses average around $2,500 total a month not counting long vacations or international business travel. We pay medical and dental expenses out of pocket since they’re so cheap—no need for insurance.

I earn money in the U.S. and from Europe, but spend it in a country where only about 1 in 10 people earns more than $25 a day. There are plenty of wealthy people here and the middle class is rising fast, but it’s still a bargain for most items.

View from our 4BR/2bath $800 apartment - including utilities

The thing is, Mexico is the 14th largest economy in the world, with only Brazil being bigger in Latin America. So it’s not the screaming bargain it once was and you’ll certainly find lower prices further south. You could really go wild on the arbitrage scale by living in one of The World’s Cheapest Destinations. Apart from Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, and a few specific cities (like Buenos Aires and Panama City), you could live very well in Latin America for a fraction of what you’re spending in the U.S., Canada, or Europe. People are complaining about inflation and higher visa fees in Argentina, but an article in Americas Quarterly magazine says a college professor teaching 31 hours a week is lucky to make $1,000 a month in Argentina tops. Most have extra jobs on the side as they don’t earn this much.

If you earn $2,000 from some portable job you can take with you, you’re instantly living better than most locals. Take that downstream to poorer countries like Ecuador, Honduras, or Guatemala and you might be looked at as one of the “wealthy elite.” Many expatriates live in those places for under $1,000 a month without trying very hard.

The visa situation changes in other parts of the world, but if you can get that sorted you can take advantage of the same arbitrage in other places. On the new development side though, note that the dollar is faring much worse now than it was a year ago, so Thailand, Malaysia, and some other spots in Asia will cost you more than before. They’re still a fantastic deal though, if you can put up with the regular visa runs. One new spot to consider is Sri Lanka. Long a war-torn place that most people steered clear of, it’s finally peaceful and bargains abound.

If you’re the adventurous type, consider places where lots of apartments formerly filled by foreigners are now empty: Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan for a start. This would be a great time to kick back in the Sinai for a while…

If you’re just traveling around the world from place to place, not needing to settle down for any reason, then the cheapest places to travel are generally the cheapest places to live. It gets a little trickier if you need high-speed internet access and Skype to keep some semblance of a business going, but even that part gets easier every year. If nothing else, you can usually get one of those USB sticks through the cellular phone company to receive a signal if your guesthouse/apartment isn’t wired.

The beauty of this approach is that you’re not bound by a long-term lease and you don’t have to be bothered much about short visa lengths in Southeast Asia. Kick back in the real bargain places like Laos, Cambodia, rural India, Nepal, Indonesia. When it’s time to go, just go. Here’s a good place to start: 6 Places to Live for Super-cheap.

If you’re getting paid locally, this is such a case-by-case basis that it’s hard to make generalizations. The trick anywhere is to make more money than you’re going to spend. When I taught English in Turkey, I broke even. Barely. When I taught English in South Korea though, my wife and I saved 30 thousand dollars in a year. So just because a country is cheap doesn’t mean you should move there to work. You may be better off going up a few rungs, whether you’re a scuba instructor, college professor, translator, bartender, or fruit picker. Here are some books on the subject.

If you’ve got cash in the bank and a steady check coming in from a pension, IRA, or social security, you are really in the sweet spot. Some countries want you badly and are willing to throw out all kinds of incentives to get you to come spend money in their country. Cash is king and you will be treated like a king if you set your sites on one of these places, like Malaysia, Philippines, Panama, Mexico, Ecuador, or Belize. Goodies may include tax incentives, free importation of goods, retiree discounts, and an easy path to a residency visa. In some cases you’ll get a discount on plane tickets within and out of the country. Nice! Just put your country of choice and “retirement incentives” in Google. If you’re coming up empty, check for e-book reports that lay out the details in the resource links at the end.

View from a sub-$500 home in Cotacachi, Ecuador

Figure out though if you want an expat center or immersion center. In the former there will be lots of people who look like you, speaking the same language as you, but prices will be much higher. If you pick a place that’s not dominated by foreigners, you’ll get more of a monetary advantage from moving.

If you’re a business-minded investor who has the time to sit on a house for a while, this is a historic investment opportunity in many housing markets. Prices have dropped 25-50% in parts of the U.S. because of the housing bubble bursting and to call it a “buyer’s market” is laughably understating the problem in many states. If you were in the market for a beachfront condo in Florida, or a house in Arizona, you’ve got plenty to pick from if you can wait out the turmoil.

Latin American countries have seem similar declines in markets where Americans were buying, from Ajijic to Zihuatanejo and south to Costa Rica and Roatan. Canadians and ever-wealthier locals have taken up some of the slack, but not much. Some markets are out of whack though, like Argentina, where locals are putting all their savings into property because of inflation worries and distrust of the banks.

Prices have also plummeted in places where the economy is in tatters and it’s probably going to get much worse before it gets better. Some of these are very desirable places to live, spots that may have seemed unattainable before, like Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Ireland. Any place that’s been on CNN a lot, like Thailand was last year and Honduras was before that, usually turns into a buyer’s market quite quickly.

Ready to get going? Here are posts with some good resources.

Nix, is Africa not cheap for travelers

If you have a budget for this type of trip, Africa is awesome.

I have always felt kind of bad that Africa is so underrepresented in each edition of the world's cheapest destinations, but despite the widespread poverty, it is not much of a deal if you don't want to live like a local. Or do nothing. I had a wonderful time once on a press trip to South Africa and Botswana, but if I had to put to travel on a credit card that I would probably still paying it off five years later.

One of the two African countries I include (Morocco), I have seen striking from the next edition in 2012.

Yesterday I had an e-mail exchange with Marie javins, a person who wrote a book about travelling from Cape Town to Cairo called Stalking wild DIK-DIK. She recently returned to the continent to go through again and I asked her what she would find price-wise. All the contenders to replace Morocco? The answer was not beautiful.

    Delete Marie!

"Has Just gone through Africa, I learned a lesson hard if the current value of the US dollar. Last time i was in Namibia and South Africa, prices were quite good, and the time before that, they were an unbelievable bargain. This time, they were priced about the same as at home. Not a bargain at all.

Zimbabwe may be good business, but nobody wants to go there right now.

Zambia is valuable but not cheap anymore either. You get great stuff for your money, as well as lion walks and helicopter rides, but great value is not cheap.

Kenya and Tanzania has some pretty good hotel deals but the problems of these countries is that the fees as National Park destroy your value for money.

How much is this observation worth to you?

Leaving Uganda and Rwanda, but it is difficult to say Uganda is good value when gorilla fees are $ 500 +. But national park fees are reasonable in relation to its neighbours.

And then there are a bunch of sites your readers don't want to go, Sudan, Ethiopia, Chad, car.

On the West Coast, Angola and Congo is just plain old obscenely prices. Nigeria are lucicrously expensive. Cameroon is not so bad. Gabon rips you off blind for national parks and then gives you a few monkeys.

The Gambia is okay but it is UK-£ oriented. Everywhere above is dedicated to the euro.

The euro dominates the West African market and it was a painful thing to spot. RAND used to be but understated (and the southern countries in oen way or another all reflect coincidence) in the same way as Australia var. But these currencies have done well in recent years.

I don't know if you really can use Madagascar flights is almost impossible for human beings. But I was shocked at the great value the. hotel for $ 10-20, shared taxi for $ 6, really really great value for independent travelers. "

So there you have it. Either come from a country where you gain lots of euros, or find a way to get to Madagascar.

If someone wants to pipe in with tales of $ 30 per day Africa trip that was actually funny, I'm all ears. Fill in a comment below!

Notes from wardrobe: books to consider

I would be a pretty lame author if I have not read a lot, so I try to read real books regularly. Here are a few that I have checked out lately is worth a look.  A travel book, a journey e-book and that is a kick in the pants of all media.

First up, I have read before I ever went to Mexico City, or moved to Mexico for a year, but in the end this last month after meeting David Suffer twice. First stop in the new world is the type of book that only bilingual, long resident in the city was able to write. It is insightful, search, and full of talk about details, the author went after just like a real journalist. (For a while he was editor of a major newspaper in the city.) To learn more about the world's second largest city than you knew that you wanted to know and to do it in a fun and entertaining way. I am certainly not the first who rave about this book, just check out the media review on Amazon. It is a keeper.

He has received a great blog on d.f. too. See DavidLida.com

This next one will be hard to read in bed if you find a way to get it to an iPad,. It is a landscape layout e-book with lots of photos, so even if you're geeky enough to convert it to ePub that doesn't work on the Kindle. So curl with your laptop and check Surviving the Indian Railway.

It was written by Drew Gilbert, otherwise known as husband of almost fearless blogChristine Gilbert. This is not a comprehensive how-to book on travels throughout India by train really rather a travelogue about his 16-day whirlwind had Inda rail.

However, there are some good planning information including how to deal with the inherent frustration in trying to be a flashpacker in a developing country. (Shortcut, you are a slave to the limited electrical outlets.) Plus there are plenty of basic information, purchasing an Indrail pass, figuring meals (you won't go hungry) and to manage the dreaded have squat toilets on a train in motion.

Read this game romp brought back lots of memories, some nice and some intentionally buried but it shows you are travelling by train in India remains one of the world's most interesting adventure – and a screaming bargain. This is one of the hottest new e-books I remember reading, with interesting pictures on almost all sides. This means of course that there is really much text at the end. You can read the whole thing for an hour or two. But the price is right: $ 10. Click here to view more details

This last that have little to do with travel unless you have experienced problems actually do them travel plans a reality. Simple title is do the work and this is what the captain you do. If the author was just a motivational guru this pithy little book would not have much merit, but he is a successful writer writer, and the author of The War of Art.

You can probably guess from all plates I have spinning in the air and the books I've published, to get things done and out the door has never been one of my biggest problems, but I still fight from time to time. I have also been involved in some group projects lately that some of my teammates definitely should have read this book, then read again for good measure. Ideas are fine, but if you do not prevail over the resistance — from friends, relatives, from the partner and the little voice inside your head — you will never meet milestones and make those ideas into something that matters. You will not ship your product, you won't make the investment, you don't start the marketing that will make a big splash.

Or you take not the great journey around the world that you plan. There are a million reasons not to go travel and no shortage of people who can easily provide those reasons if you want to listen to them or not. Learn to look past the opposition and give life great things is the real key to success – and perhaps even happiness. Working good medicine on how to get there.

(In an odd pricing quirk, hardcover in this book is actually cheaper than Kindle version — and easier to read because of all the font changes. Get that one if you're on the go.)

Egypt's Revolution, Surrealism in the jungle and Smyrna Revisited

It is time for the July issue of insightful travel, as usual, filled with best travel stories from book authors on the go.

This time you got interesting travel tales from North America, plus two countries that are difficult to place: Egypt and Turkey. They are in the Middle East? Is Turkey in Asia or Europe – or both? Egypt is an African country?

Well, it's the story that counts, and in this case our woman on stage is a witness to a revolution: the overthrow of a longstanding Government with very little bloodshed: notes from a Revolution in Egypt.

Turkey has been a democracy for a long time, so while we may quibble about the principles of the party in power, no revolution needed. Instead, Gloria DeVidas Kirchheimer Ponders what it means to be a Jewish woman who returns to his ancestral home in Turkey, in an ancient land flourishing long before the Muslims came: of Smyrna.

This next story is mine, so I'll skip the exaggeration. The focus of the article deserves the hype but: Las Pozas, Xilitla. The strange name itself should be enough for you to raise an eyebrow, but believe me, this trip is unlike any other: Dreams of Man in stone and concrete.

It is not all, of course. You can check out reviews of interesting new travel books, including the latest from Colin Thubron. Our latest world music reviews run gamut Algerian desert blues-Balkan brass to Palestinian funk.

What I'm going to miss and do not miss about living in Mexico

You hear my opinions and advice about this enough, so this week we have a special treatment instead. This is a guest post from my 10-year-old daughter Alina.

When we put a "for sale" signs in front of our House in the spring of 2010 and hear our daughter, we move to Guanajuato, Mexico for a year-long family Sabbatiska, she was not really proud of. She adjusted, however, and became a fluent Spanish speaker with lots of new friends in our adopted city. A year later, she has mixed feelings now goes back to the United States. So take it away Alina – what will you miss, and not miss out on this crazy country?

Things I'll miss about living in Mexico:

    1) Festivals and parties all the time

    2) will be able to go to lots of places

    3) Mexican food (including tortas milanesas, paletas, ice cream, natural yoghurt sundaes, mocha cookies, aguas frescas, limonadas, licuados and guava juice.)

    4) my school and my friends

    5) interesting and cheap things to buy in the markets

    6) riding on Fin Primera Plus and the OVERWHELMING VALUE of buses – they give you a snack and a drink every time!

    1) Super loud music played outside most of the time

    2) Chile and Limon on everything, plus odd tasting pizza

    3) Garbage on the ground almost everywhere, plus poop sometimes from dogs, donkeys and horses

    4) enters stairways, ramps and steep streets each day in Guanajuato

    5) Mariachi music and songs with "corazon" in them

First image of Alina by Katie Clancy, second by Tim Leffel.

"This place was surreal" (for real)

Many destinations can be described as "surreal," particularly when people have problems with putting what they have seen in words, but then there are sites that really deserves to be in the long term. Like where I was two days ago: Las Pozas in the jungle of nowhere, Mexico.

I'll just get a little taste of this amazing place that marries Dali, Dr. Seuss, and Lewis Carroll, but which still has a unique vision that all their own. The reason is, this wonderland concrete-built by a wealthy British artist for decades before he died in 1987 and is the centerpiece of the story that will appear in the July issue of perceptive travel. [Update- Las Pozas Xilitla story is now posted!]

So enjoy some mad images and then check out the new issue in less than a week for more photos and depth. I'm going to put a little at the end on how to get there, but it takes some commitment. The three nearest towns are sites that hardly any foreign tourists go: San Luis Potosí, Tampico and Querétaro. Then run a few hours to Xilitla. But when you get there-away is less than $ 5, for a site which costs $ 5 million to build.
